Success
Success: when your students quote Annie Dillard from memory in class presentations and in spontaneous reflection papers. Yes!
Or when after their first semester they bring her book home and give it to their mothers and say "This is a wonderful book - you have to read it!" (what I did)
I don't think you told me that, Anna! How wonderful! Elisa has a weblog now (Days Inside-Out -- in the sidebar) and she is quoting and alluding to Dillard often. Happy sigh. :)
One of the sweetest gifts in life for a teacher is to know she has touched the life of a student in a significant, lasting way. I have a feeling that most students would be surprised at how very, very, very much they mean to us.
